IVAI Co-founder and Artistic Director

Ms. Dornemann, Metropolitan Opera Assistant Conductor, is one of the most highly respected opera coaches in the world today. She has worked with such singers as Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo, José Carreras, Sherrill Milnes, Kiri Te Kanawa, Montserrat Caballe, Deborah Voigt, Renée Fleming, Leo Nucci and others. She has been associated with the Gran Liceo in Barcelona, the Spoleto Festival, the New York City Opera, Opera National de Paris and the Kirov Opera. Ms. Dornemann has received an Emmy Award for her contribution to the highly acclaimed first Live From the Met first telecast of La Bohème. She is the author of Complete Preparation: A Guide to Auditioning for the Opera.

Conductor, IVAI Co-founder and Director of Musical Activities

Since his debut in 1989, Maestro Nadler has led over 60 performances at the Metropolitan Opera, conducting some of today’s most renowned singers. Maestro Nadler is Music Director Emeritus of the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the Filarmonica de Stat Iasi (Romania). Iasi and Brasov. His extensive conducting career includes working with Opera Cleveland, National Opera Company of Bucharest Orchestra, Augsburg Symphony (Germany), Romanian National Radio Orchestra, Verbier Festival (Switzerland), Florida Philharmonic Orchestra and the Timisiora Symphony (Romania). Indianapolis Opera, Utah Opera, Calgary Opera, Florentine Opera, Minnesota Opera, Syracuse Opera, Orlando Opera and Hong Kong Opera.

Associate Arts & Stage Director

Toronto-born Joshua Major, Stage Director, began his opera-directing career at the age of 23 with La Cenerentola for Opera Omaha. Soon after, he worked as an assistant to Rhoda Levine at Juilliard, Cynthia Auerbach at both Chautauqua Opera and New York City Opera, and William Gaskill at the Welsh National Opera. Mr. Major has worked as a stage director for over 27 years throughout the United States and Canada, developing an impressively diverse repertoire of productions, including the North American premiere of Rossini’s La Gazzetta, La Perichole, Dido and Aeneas, Ariadne auf Naxos, The Cunning Little Vixen, Lucia di Lammermoor, and The Turn of the Screw. Productions for IVAI include Le Tragédie de Carmen, Docteur Miracle, Les Mamelles de Tirésias, L’Impressions de Pelléas, L’Enfant et les sortilèges, and La Fille du régiment. In 2012 Mr. Major became Chair of Opera Studies at the New England Conservatory of Music after completing 20 years on the faculty of the University of Michigan, where he oversaw the Opera Program, both teaching and directing. He was the Artistic Director of the Pine Mountain Music Festival. He has been a stage director and faculty member with IVAI since 1993.
